The Definitive Dictionary of Candle Wax Terms

Certain terms like “cold throw” and “melting pool” may be familiar to only very passionate enthusiasts of candles. In this guide, we have listed a short chart that mentions some candle terms which might be of interest to the people who are new to candles or those who just want to learn more.

Burn Time

The duration it takes for a candle to be completely burnt is known as the burn time. You are going to like your candle more and more with every bit of its burn time. A good vegan scented candle will freshen up your mind with each passing minute.

Hot And Cold Throw

“Cold throw” is a word that refers to a candle’s odor prior to the lighting of the candle. The first perception is what you get when you open one of our candles and smell the fragrance that comes from it. “Hot Throw” is a term which means the fragrance that the candle has during a period when it is on. This is what makes your favorite scent spread through a room.

Fragrance Notes

The fashionable name “note” designates the different smells that a perfume consists of. To create each of our scents, we combine top, middle, and base notes in a very deliberate way. These different types of fragrance notes are described below.

Key Notes

The most essential initial impact that a candle gives through its top tones. The first notes that say “Hi!” are these ones. Like any eager but slightly flighty individual, they are the first to go, even though they are typically light and fresh. Do not worry, even if their molecules are smaller and move more quickly than middle and base notes. These scents do not overshadow the candle’s general aroma.

Middle Notes

These notes are usually called the “heart notes” as they are deep and multi-dimensional just like a human heart. The notes normally work in a supportive role to the notes of the upper or lower part hereby providing harmony. It is also very typical of the middle notes to include light fruits and spicy or herbal tones.

Base Notes

The baritones in the fragrance industry are base notes. They last longer because of their big molecules and they help in anchoring a note. They contribute to the perfumed experience by giving the final touch and a memory of the scent. Base notes are generally amber, and woody scents.

Wax Pool (Melted Wax Pool)

The wax pool is the area covered by melted wax around the burning wick of your candle. To get the best outcome from your scented candle, the pool size must be bigger in size. The candle’s hot throw (remember this from earlier?) is better when the wax pool is bigger. In order to avoid tunneling, it is very important that the wax pool from a candle goes all the way to the container’s edge.

Mushrooming

Mushrooming is a buildup that sometimes happens on the top of wicks. This accumulation can occur if there is a wick that is of a certain type, fragrance oils, or the presence of some other elements that cause mushrooms. When you have put out the flame, if the wick looks like a mushroom from a garden, cut the top part with a wick trimmer or scissors. In this way, when you are cutting the mushroom down the ideal length of the wick, which is 1/4″. will be what you provide for your wick’s next burn.

Tunneling

Maybe a candle fan’s most feared problem is tunneling. This is when a candle goes through the center and leaves the wax on the sides, which is called tunneling. The most common cause is the wrong burning, especially at the first time. The simplest way to avoid tunneling is to burn a candle until the wax pool is completely throughout the first burn. Because of their memory, if the initial burn is only halfway across the candle, candles will be more likely to go out by themselves the next time you light them.

In Conclusion

Now you have the necessary knowledge to successfully enter the world of scented candles! Or, at the very least, you should be able to demonstrate your expertise at candle talks that are elegant in nature.
